Tasting Notes / Comments:We're not waiting to see what the next chardonnay is, we're eagerly anticipating the next viognier and we think we'll be hanging around for a long time. Head spinning perfume and apricot aromas? - check. Huge weight in the mouth with a slight spicy kick? - check. Enough alcohol to get you hotter than a politician on newsnight? - check. Oh and being from Australia means it's even riper and more approachable than ever.
Virgin Wines (2002 vintage)

Trentham Estate was once part of a large sheep station called Trentham Cliffs'. After the Second World War the riverfront areas - bordering the Murray River - were developed into horticultural properties. The Murphy family were pioneers who established vineyards at Merbein in 1909. They moved to the property in 1960 and Trentham Estate was officially launched in 1988, although the first harvest was in 1984, using only 6 tonnes of grapes. The Murphy vineyards now spread over 50 hectares, with an annual crush of approximately 1,200 tonnes to produce the estate's own range from a selected 400 tonnes.
Anthony Murphy, the winemaker, left Mildara Blass after an eleven-year association to concentrate on the Estate wines, along with his brother, Patrick, who is vineyard manager. Trentham produce wines which are outstanding value for money. The Viognier won a gold medal in the Melbourne and Sydney show

This wine typifies the characteristics of the variety and shows why this variety has so much promise for the future. The wine has exotic fragrant aromas of apricot and peach with a full soft palate finishing dry.
